Tell us a little something about your first girlfriend/boyfriend.
Ahhh summer camp! I made some great friends there, including a great girl named Abby. Abby and I were extremely tight... and she had an older brother, Tim. Abby and I spent lots of time sneaking out and generally being hooligans at the ripe old ages of 12 and 13...
The following year, Abby turned 13 and I 14, which meant it was time for her Bat Mitzvah. That was the first time I ever got drunk. Tim, Abby's older brother thought it would be a great idea to get me drunk of of white wine. So there we were, drinking white wine out of coffee cups at the Kona Kai Club in San Diego. It was a laugh.
I came down with chicken pox a couple of days later and spent all week talking to Tim on the phone and watching MTV. He was a super-smart over achieving type who I would later run into in the airport one day in college where he would bragfully point out that he was reading Nietzsche. He seemed to know everything cool, obscure, and underground. I was fascinated by him.
We went to summer camp together the following year and had a great ol' time. Years later I went back to visit my summer camp and our names were still painted on the ceiling of the ceramics room. We only dated for 6 months--but 6 months at the age of 14 and 15 respectively is a long time. I'm lucky to have known him AND his sister. I have nothing but the fondest of memories of the Solomon sibs and the summers of 1987 and 1988.
