so last night after way too many hours of no food and too much writing, i dragged jay down to hotel utah for some pub grub. turns out, it was blog-geek central. coincidentally, and unbeknownst to us, we walked right into the SF Blogger Dinner. it didn't take long for folks to descend on jay and interrogate him about his upcoming release as it seems EVERYONE who's anyone in the blog-o-sphere uses Movable Type--or at least has a very strong opinion about it. now, keep in mind, i'm absolutely NO ONE in that blogosphere--and i'm happy to stay that way. (my voxy site here is meant to be super casual and somewhat personal.)
so, my interactions with the crowd were, well, funny... an event like this feels like a geeky-hollywood-bizarro-world, where no one has ever seen each other face to face, so it's all about name recognition. everyone that came up to me, due to my sitting across from jay, anticipatorily introduced themselves to me, and then when they realized i was a blog-o-nobody, they looked uncomfortable and moved on. honestly, it was hilarious to observe this strange modern day techno-geek social scene. i definitely enjoyed watching jay work the crowd... or rather, hold court and watch folks line up to talk to him / bitch at him about Movable Type. i felt a little like the first lady of blogging... a little hillary (savvy), a little laura (smiling and hanging back dutifully)... that was amusing.
i did talk to a couple of folks for more than a few moments--i've always been able to hold my own, even in the geek-o-rific blog-o-sphere. in fact, the excessive use of pod-casting devices might result in my voice being shared with whomever listens to marty mckeay. i wasn't sure i was being recorded or not, so i gave vox a fat plug, and blathered on about how un-bloggy i am. i kinda hope he posts it cause, well, that would be amusing. my own voice is strange--super alto deep. i always cringe when i hear it recorded--kinda like a train-wreck.
