Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?
ha. i totally don't have time to be screwing around at work and answering this... but it made me laugh... here's why:
i dated this guy years ago that proposed to me over the phone after only one month of dating long distance. i said yes. that was the dumbest thing EVAR. EVAR!!! anyhoo, turns out, he's bi-polar. no, literally, bi-polar. diagnosed. he has a family history of schizophrenia. oh lord. that was nuts. anyways, we were talking one day on a long drive and he stops me in the middle of our conversation and says "okay, i need to ask you a really serious question." i say, "uh, okay, sure." he says "if this is going to work out between us, i need to know that when aliens come to earth and ask us if we will come back to their planet with them that you will agree to go." this was before i fully understood that he was crazy. at that point, i thought to myself "uh, wow, uh, ohmygod, he can't be serious." but he was. seriously. i so don't believe in aliens i truly was speechless. that was just one of many clues that i should have seen and acknowledged about where our relationship was going...
so, the answer to the question is NO. i don't believe in aliens. i do believe that somewhere outside of our known universe there's gotta be some other life forms elsewhere. but there is no way i believe that any aliens will ever come to earth anytime in my lifetime and ask if i want to join them on their planet.
btw, the relationship with psycho crazy asshole ended with a really awful painful 1.5 week roadtrip from philly to san francisco where i was emotionally abused and made to feel like i was the most awful person on earth (and probably in his imaginary universe.) we got back to sf and i had no job, no car, no stuff, and STILL walked away knowing anything was better than being with him. emotional abuse is a crazy, crazy thing.
freakiest jerry springer moment (okay, 4 months) of my life. i can't articulate exactly what i learned from the experience--but needless to say i'd like to think i'm now a better judge of character.
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your holiday list?
am i supposed to have a holiday shopping list? i prefer to be a year round favor giver to whomever needs one.
What's the worst pickup line you've ever heard?
Submitted by ShellEy.
So actually, this is both the worst AND the best pick up line I've ever heard...
You're probably wondering "WTF??!! How is that a good pick-up line??" Simple. A very large black man at Storyville said that to me as I was making my way through the crowd. Frankly, I was flattered. Draw your own conclusions.Girl, if they told you to haul ass, you'd have to make 2 trips!!
:-)
What are some of your favorite, forgotten albums that have stood the test of time?
Submitted by PeterGibbons.
Dude. The Eagles: Live 1980. The do an amazing rendition of 7 Bridges Road. And, more importantly, a kick ass version of Take it Easy, where they replace the phrase "Winslow, Arizona" with "Southern California" which means the world to me... bein' a San Diego girl and all...
Oh, there's also this really whacked out version of the Joe Walsh song Life's Been Good. He is so drunk that he pretty much gave the song a makeover on stage and the words are pretty hilarious.
I (heart) the Eagles.
Which of your five senses (touch, taste, sight, hearing, or smell) do you value the most?
Submitted by Elisheva.
good question. lemme think... i would say smell... because without smell, you pretty much can't taste either... and i looooooove food. :D
hearing would probably follow that... then sight, then touch. i mean, if i had to force rank things...
When was the last time you had to speak in front of a group? How did you feel?
i LOVE speaking in front of a group. is that wrong? my fave public speaking is wedding toasts. i'm pretty good at them. and i love winging it. even if i'm not that good or interesting, they are always sincere--and that comes across.
so the last time i spoke publicly was actually a training session i put on here at le Gap where i taught some folks how to do cool stuff with microstrategy. i'm such a geek--i love teaching people how to use reporting software... and it's yet another opportunity to stand up and speak in front of a crowd.
what a dork i am!
What's your morning beverage of choice? Coffee, tea, juice? Homemade or store-bought?
Duh. Is there anything better than some sort of hot milky frothy espresso based beverage? No, I don't think so. I've moved around a bit between au laits, lattes, and cappucinos. Lately, I'm all about the cappucinos. I'm constantly in search of the perfect ratio of espresso or strong coffee to milk. Best yet: Blue Bottle double cap with lots o' sugar.
And, on the rare occasion that I've had the tools and the oranges readily available... I *love* to squeeze my own orange juice and run it through a strainer into my glass. Delish.
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you pick and why?
uh.... does The Soup count? it's snippets of reality... celeb reality, that is. okay, well, maybe i could be in a reality TV show about me vying for a hosting gig of some sort of comedy/entertainment/pop-culture show... i like to sound like a news anchor, even though i'm not. :-)
What's your cell phone's ringtone? What made you pick it?
my cell phone ringtone is rather boring... but jay picked out his own custom ringtone so that when he calls i get this slightly jazzy, slightly cheezy, slightly funky tune. frankly, everything that came with ye olde motorola kinda blows.
my best ringtone ever was the theme song from mission:impossible. i always felt dangerous when my phone rang... oh to be young and full of myself!
Tell us a little something about your first girlfriend/boyfriend.
Ahhh summer camp! I made some great friends there, including a great girl named Abby. Abby and I were extremely tight... and she had an older brother, Tim. Abby and I spent lots of time sneaking out and generally being hooligans at the ripe old ages of 12 and 13...
The following year, Abby turned 13 and I 14, which meant it was time for her Bat Mitzvah. That was the first time I ever got drunk. Tim, Abby's older brother thought it would be a great idea to get me drunk of of white wine. So there we were, drinking white wine out of coffee cups at the Kona Kai Club in San Diego. It was a laugh.
I came down with chicken pox a couple of days later and spent all week talking to Tim on the phone and watching MTV. He was a super-smart over achieving type who I would later run into in the airport one day in college where he would bragfully point out that he was reading Nietzsche. He seemed to know everything cool, obscure, and underground. I was fascinated by him.
We went to summer camp together the following year and had a great ol' time. Years later I went back to visit my summer camp and our names were still painted on the ceiling of the ceramics room. We only dated for 6 months--but 6 months at the age of 14 and 15 respectively is a long time. I'm lucky to have known him AND his sister. I have nothing but the fondest of memories of the Solomon sibs and the summers of 1987 and 1988.
