# 3 anwered the question i had when i first read about this a few days ago. i take apart thrist store sweaters to resell the yarn... materials like silk and angora. have to buy those... but no buying clothes for a year. that's a challenge i'd like to take on.

You go baby!

Though we're not swearing off new clothing purchases for the year, we are cutting down in spending to pursue the same dream of home ownership (or in our case, home renovation-ship). As I've come to find out, just turning the mental state of shopping around from "being a cheap ass" to "enjoying the challenge of finding bargains", or heaven forbid, waiting a month or so after new gadgets come to market, that I've made big strides in savings. Check out LifeHacker when you get a chance, too. There's other ways to "stick it to the man". :)

Jennifer this is a great idea! You should take a look at your debit or credit card accounts over the last year or so and see how much of your hard earned $$s go to Nordy's. Then take that money and put it in a savings account every month. I really think this is a great initiative not only for saving money but ALSO for saving the environment. I forget the exact percentage but a significant percentage of landfill refuse is textiles. When I do buy clothing and shoes which is far less than I used to, I try to buy only things that were made in europe or some other artisan location and not from Old Navy sweatshops.
lifehacker rocks my world. seriously. i always find something delightful, smart and hella cool there. (yes, i just said hella.) good call out, tom. i like where your head's at!
absolutely! we sort of started that process by having to pull together all of our expenses for our accountant last weekend. however, i do really need to dig in and analyze allllll of my expenses over the past year and really figure out a) exactly WHAT i'm spending on and b) exactly HOW MUCH i'm spending. i'm all about putting that much in savings every month.
